San Miguel Foundation successfully launched the Backyard Bukid- Can Asia last October 6, 2023 at Can Asia, San Miguel Metal Closure Plant, Arnaldo Hwy, General Trias, Cavite in partnership with SEED Philippines. The event was attended by the SMC-CAI Plant Manager, Dennis Alvarez, Program Manager of San Miguel Foundation, Rona Mei Tanchico, AVP and Management Services Manager of San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corporation (SMYPC), Ronaldo Gorospe, and SMYPC Planning, Communication and Community Relation Group Manager, Patricia Santos. Some staff of SMF and SMYPC also participated the event: Sarah Cruz Asido, Abby Reyes, Mabeth Alfanza.
Backyard Bukid is an urban gardening program that was established at San Miguel Corporation Head Office Complex in March 2021. It is an initiative of San Miguel Foundation in partnership with SEED Philippines that aimed to provide source of food augmentation, extra source of income, source of social support and emotional wellbeing for their support staff family during the lockdown. With the bigger goal of SMF for Backyard Bukid and due to the success of the program since its establishment, SMF plan to replicate Backyard Bukid to its various San Miguel Plants and Facilities beginning with Can Asia and Manila Glass Plant.
